Rev. G.C. Winters on Wednesday evening while cutting wood slipped and nearly severed the great toe of his left foot, which will make him a cripple for some time.
Mr. Eskin and Mrs. Gyselhart have their ice houses filled with fine clear water ice.
We have had some of the finest skating on the lake here there has been in several winters and it has been greatly enjoyed by those from far and near – especially on Sundays. There is more “sporting” on Sundays now than there was way back when this scribe was a kid.
This community was greatly shocked last Wednesday by the death of the last of our older residents, John Wilbur. Mr. Wilber left home shortly after dinner Tuesday, saying he would walk over to where parties had been running the line between the Dayton lot (now owned by him) and the Maria Hornbeck lot, recently purchased by Mr. Seaman. As he failed as night approached, to return, the neighborhood turned out to find him, and the search was kept up until three o’clock in the morning, when it was thought best to wait till daylight. Then the search was resumed, and about eight o’clock he was found along the line in the woods back of Gyselhart’s, lying on his face, apparently having died without a struggle. Mr. Wilber was born in Germany, was 75 years old, and leaves a wife and nine grown children, who have the sympathy of the community.

The ice is about 15 inches thick and the farmers are rapidly reaping a harvest of glass-like ice.
S. Newmark returned from Ellenville last Monday with a fair pair of bays. Guess we’ll have to give him the road.
The Odd Fellows held a dance and supper here last Wednesday evening. It was a great success both financially and socially.
Frank Bennett’s infant child died, aged three weeks.
A horse was found dead the 24th of January on the road leading to Centreville, on the hill from the paper mill. No owner claimed it.
