Change in the Board of Education

At a regular meeting of the Ellenville Board of Education Friday evening the resignation of C. Dwight Divine as a member of that body was received and upon his insistence, accepted. Mr. Divine has been a member of the Board for some ten years, three years as its presiding officer, and has made a record as one of the most painstaking and efficient school trustees the village has had, devoting a great deal of valuable time to its affairs and having a keen conception of the responsibilities of the position. His necessary absence from town several months in the year, however, making it impossible to give proper attention to the duties of the office, led him some time ago to suggest the desirability of a change, and the Board has finally acceded to his wishes in the matter. Following that action, Wm. C. Rose was appointed to fill out the unexpired term which runs till May next. Mr. Rose is one of Ellenville’s wide awake business men, with a personal interest in the welfare of our schools, and his appointment would seem to be a wise one.

The Racers are Coming

A correspondent from Pine Bush writing Sunday says: several of the trotters which were at the Farmers Outing at Walden, last week, passed here this morning en route for Ellenville with their various paraphernalia. They created quite a sensation in passing.

Others are coming from various directions by highway and by rail, and we are told the prospect at present is that there will be more hotly contested races on the track at the Fair next week than for years preceding.

Harvest Home Festival and Sale

Listen! Don’t forget Friday evening, August 19th. The ladies of the Reformed Church will hold a Harvest Home Festival on the church lawn, and with this festival other good things are connected.

A chicken supper will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. At eight o’clock a very pleasing entertainment entitled “Sweet Family” will be given by the young ladies of the church, and an essay will be given by a graduate of Kingston Academy.

Don’t forget to visit the sale booth in which you will find some useful articles either to you or as gifts to your friends. After the entertainment, ice cream and refreshments will be served, and the music band will be a treat throughout the evening.

If Friday is stormy, the festival will take place on Saturday evening. The admission to the entertainment is adults 15 cents, children 10 cents.

Baseball with Walden Saturday

At a meeting of the Fire Department League Wednesday evening it was decided to play a game Saturday with the Orioles of Walden, Litchrod and Cy Traphagen from Pioneers, Wood and Herron from Scoresbys and the balance of the team from Kimbles, will make the home team.
