Basketball Notes

The opening home game of the Scoresby Basket Ball team will be played with the Royal Althetic Club team of Catskill at Norbury Hall. The Royals will make the Scorsebys go to be in the game.

On Saturday the Ellenville High School Basket Ball team journeyed to Liberty, where they defeated the High School team of that place by a score of 43-24. The game was rather rough, the Liberty boys getting the advantage at the start, scoring three field baskets before the Ellenville boys got started. However, from then on the visitors began to climb – the score at the end of the first half being 19-12 in their favor. The points scored by the Ellenville team are as follows: McDowell, L. F., 20; Shurter, R. F., 14; Green, C., 2; Freer, L. G, 6; Gilleran, R. G., 0. Freer and Gilleran both guarded well, Green outjumped his man at center, while McDowell scored six out of seven trys from the foul line.

The Mystery Solved

It is now known whose was the body found as reported last week above the Napanoch mountain reservoir. First of the week E. S. Carver of Carver Bros. was in Mr. Ostrander’s office when the latter showed him the wash found on the dead body. Rm. Carver recognized it, and taking it to the store on consulting his books he found the numbers and dates to confirm his suspicion. The watch was that of Theron F. Terwilliger, and had been repeatedly repaired there.

Mr. Terwilliger had been for a year or two at the county Farm, New Paltz, and on the 9th of September left the place to visit Ellenville. He spent two or three days here, and started on his return to New Paltz, when he met his death.

Mr. Terwilliger was 73 years old, and leaves one daughter, wife of John H. Rose, a carpenter on Greenfield road; also a brother and sister, both of this village.
