The large barn of Levi Jansen in Shawangunk, near Pine Bush, was destroyed by fire about 1 o’clock on Friday afternoon. In the barn were several horses, farming utensils and a large stock of hay and grain. The horses were gotten out in time, but the other things went up in flames with the structure. The origin of the fire is a mystery, although the theory is that either a match lying on the floor was stepped on by someone, or someone smoking had let drop a lighted match. The fire was discovered by the farm hand who noticed a slight blaze. He immediately rushed to the house, a short distance away, for water to extinguish the fire, but when he returned with the water, the fire had spread incredibly, and there was no chance whatever of saving the barn. It was insured in the amount of $1,000.

Mrs. S. M. Taylor gave her class of young boys in the M.E. Sunday School an outing on Wednesday, taking them by train to Kingston Point, where they spent the day most happily — an event that will not be forgotten. Mr. Ford Smith accompanied the party and rendered valuable service. Perhaps none enjoyed the day more heartily than the young Master Dwight Divine Jr., attended by his “best girl” Miss Theresa Grosch.

A Yama Farm team ran away Saturday, meeting with a smash-up near the Shook mill at Napanoch in which one of the horses was injured by striking a telephone pole so that it died a short time later.

There is continuous blasting at the O. & W. stone crusher plant along the berme, and a great deal of crushed stone is being taken out and distributed along the line. Several veins or pockets of ore have been uncovered during the work.

The Millbrook people are pluming themselves upon having a top-notch picnic next Wednesday night, having engaged for music on that occasion the “regular Ellenville Brass Band.” Well, that ought to call a crowd, if anything would.

Goshen and all Orange County are proud over the fact that “The Wanderer,” a Kentucky horse, made a new world’s record under saddle, doing the mile in 2:18, at the Goshen Track Tuesday.
