The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Ellenville and Joshua Morales is showing the way. On one side business he buys and sells real estate, with a house he’s fixed up in Ellenville and three properties in Napanoch, for his other business he’s gone all in on exotic snacks, with a third venture in the fashionable sneaker market.

But his new snack shop may take the cake… and turn it into breakfast cereal!

We caught up with Morales at his new shop, 845 Exotic Snacks, located on the corner of Center and Church Street — the home of a former auto shop and car dealership going back to the 50s or 60s.

The building owner, Manmeet Singh, has rented out half the building to Morales, and plans to go back to auto repair for the rest of it.

And now the snacks are in there and this is a really wild kind of ride.

His snacks cover a lot of ground — Oreo Strawberry Shortcake wafers, wild Cheeto flavors and Canadian-based breakfast cereal Timbits, which comes in a variety of flavors, including, yes, “Birthday Cake.” And those who like the exotic will pay good money for the strangest sounding stuff.

The shop won’t have any plain old orange Cheeto you may be familiar with, but it might have everything from chocolate to spicy chicken flavored.

Morales is currently talking with Lays, the potato chip company. “They’ve got so many things!” said Morales, who is eyeing the company’s wonderfully exotic flavors, such as “kettle cooked” wasabi ginger flavored chips. Yow! Wasabi potato chips, aka “crisps” are big in Britain these days. But wait, there’s more, including “butter garlic scallop” flavored potato chips. Those may pair nicely with a nice white wine, with high acidity, of course.

He also has exotic KitKats! In Japan, the company sells at least 53 KitKat flavors. Morales plans to sell several of these varieties, including green tea-flavored, but not the whole 53 flavors.

Then there are drinks. “These are very hard to get,” said Morales, holding up Minute Maids in blue and green. How about Japanese Coca Cola? Not green, thankfully, but strawberry. And then there’s blue Pepsi. “Hard to get!” he exclaimed while holding up a bottle with a huge grin.

Morales said that the best stuff comes from Canada and California right now. He’s been making trips to Canada to seek out the most exotic, wild snacks there are and bring them back alive.

In his new business venture, Morales is exploiting the world of truly rare, hard to find flavors and brands. And those who love this kind of stuff will happily pay over the odds for Timbits Birthday Cake for breakfast, which is currently priced at $15 a box. While the exact opening date has not yet been established, check in with Morales once his store opens and try the many flavors this world has to offer.
