Ellenville’s newly hired village treasurer, Robert Baxter, has resigned after just two weeks on the job. The board voted to accept his resignation and to authorize the village clerk to advertise for a

village treasurer. It appears he received an offer from his previous employer that he simply could not refuse.

Village Manager Michael Warren said the village will advertise for another treasurer. “We need someone with previous municipal experience, to comply with the comptroller’s office rules.”

That rules out people described as “bookkeepers.”

Warren explained that there is a real shortage at this point of people with the necessary qualifications for this sort of position.

Warren Street

Mike Jeter of the Ellenville Streets Department said the search for the correct size and style of speed humps for Warren Street continues. There are a number of factors involved, including length, width, height and “taper.”

Water Expenses

News came on Tuesday that the Fallsview well pump, a 50-horsepower monster, has failed. It will cost $54,000 to replace.

The village water bills have gone out, and so have notices of delinquency on water bills. Water and sewer costs belong entirely to their districts; they are not part of the village tax structure.

Warren said that if those who are delinquent on their water bills do not pay quickly, they will be listed, probably in the Shawangunk Journal. He noted that failure to pay water bills simply loads those costs on everyone else. “It is important to keep the district solvent and paying its bills,” such as the $54,000 cost for a new pump.

This Thursday, Warren added, the village will begin discussions with an engineering firm about a complete review of the situation regarding both water and sewer issues for the village. At the Village

Board meeting on Monday, the board authorized the expenditure of $39,857.31 to APG Neuros for VFD drives for the “blowers.”

Another motion authorized payment of $2,240 to MTK for Biobugs on recommendation of the Sewer Department foreman.

Warren commented that water and sewer services are not free.
