A Filipino grocery store and cafe may come to Accord in the future. The Town of Rochester Planning Board heard a proposal Monday evening from the owners of Woodstock’s Harana Market to open a new store along Route 209.

Their new property, a 2,500-square-foot building at 5125 Route 209, includes a large downstairs area in which they hope to open the store, as well as a 1,000-square-foot outbuilding where they want to install a kitchen. The barn-style building matches the rustic vibe set at the owners’ current facility, an old general store in Woodstock that their representatives said they have outgrown in recent months.

A gym called “30 Minutes of Everything” formerly occupied the downstairs area, and before that, it was the restaurant “Pizza Barn.” According to the property’s listing, another part of the main building is used as a massage/acupuncture room and the upstairs is used as a living and office space.

The Rochester Planning Board told the applicants they need to detail their landscaping, lighting, and design plans for the facility before moving forward. The application did not fully detail construction plans, nor did it explain how use of the downstairs would affect the living area upstairs. The board agreed the proposal was too vague to discuss thoroughly.

“Coming to us at this point is a little premature,” Chairperson Bruce Psaras said.

He explained that most applicants have pre-application meetings with the town secretary to receive checklist forms. The applicants from Harana Market agreed to set up a pre-application appointment to discuss their proposal in comparison with town requirements.
