Memorial Day, a time to honor and reflect upon the sacrifices many of our veterans have made serving this country. To commemorate their service, many of our towns have organized events for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, and the days leading up. Below is a list of those evens by town.

Ellenville

May 29: The Ellenville American Legion, at 180 S Main Street, Ellenville, will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m.

Marbletown

May 29: Marbletown will be holding a Memorial Day parade starting at 10 a.m. at the Stone Ridge Town Centre plaza, with lineup beginning at 9:30 a.m. The parade will end at the SUNY Ulster Campus, where a ceremony will be held. People are asked to park at SUNY Ulster, walk the College Connector Trail to Main Street to view the parade, and then walk back for the ceremony at the flagpole on the SUNY Ulster Campus.

The Marbletown Veterans Committee is looking for organizations, clubs, businesses, bands, groups, etc. who are interested in participating in the Memorial Day Parade. The group is looking for folks who'd like to march in a group, participate with a float, horses, classic cars, jeeps, etc. The Marbletown Veterans Committee is always looking for new members and to grow the veteran community in town. Rochester

May 29: The Accord Fire District will be hosting a town-wide Memorial Day Parade, starting at 12 p.m. The parade will step off at 1 p.m. from Veterans Park at Town Hall (50 Scenic Road, Accord), then travel down Scenic Road and Main Street, ending at the Accord Fire House. A Remembrance Ceremony and refreshments will immediately follow the parade at the fire house.

Crawford

May 29: On Memorial Day, the Pine Bush Veteran’s Parade Committee has put together a parade to honor our fallen soldiers. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. the Crispell Middle School (77 Maple Ave, Pine Bush) and run through to the town park located on Red Mills Road, where a ceremony will be taking place at approximately 10 a.m.

Mamakating

May 27: The Edward M. Maier Memorial VFW Post 4947 will hold Memorial Day services at the following locations and times: 9 a.m. at Poplar Grove Cemetery, 9:45 a.m. at the monument at the Phillipsport Community Center, 10:30 a.m. at Burlingham Cemetery, and 11:15 a.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery.

May 29: VFW Post 4947 will hold a dedication and service at the Summitville Fire House and monument at 9 a.m. They will also hold a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. at the Bloomingburg Cemetery, followed by the Wurtsboro Memorial Day Parade at 1 p.m. Parade lineup starts at 12:30 p.m., with step off at 1 p.m. The parade will begin on Pine Street, head up to Route 209, turn left onto Sullivan Street, and conclude at the American Legion Post 1266, at 92 Pine Street. A memorial service will be held at the Veterans Park located on the corner of Sullivan and 3^rd streets in Wurtsboro, at the conclusion of the parade.

Rosendale

May 29: The Rosendale/Tillson Parade will begin lining up at 9 a.m., with a 10 a.m. start. A memorial service to follow at the Rosendale Memorial.

Kingston

May 26: Ulster County will hold a candle light vigil in front of the county office building (244 Fair Street, Kingston), starting at 8 p.m.

May 29: Kingston’s Memorial Day Parade, will hold an opening ceremony at 1 p.m. with the parade scheduled to kick off at 1:45 p.m.

May 29: The Hudson Valley National Center for Veteran Reintegration will be organizing a “Ride to Remember,” starting in Kingston at 100-800 Enterprise Drive and finishing in New Paltz at the Veterans Cemetery. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and kickstands go up at 11:30 a.m.

Other Area Events

May 20: Starting at 8 a.m., a ceremony will be held to place American flags at New Paltz Rural Cemetery veterans’ section and throughout. This event will be led by VFW members and local scouts, but all are welcome to attend.

May 20: Register for the Ulster County American Legion Riders Poker Run from 9 to 11 a.m. Kickstands go up at 11:30 a.m. This event will be held at the Highland McDonald’s (Bridgeview Plaza, 650 Route 9W). Prices are $25 for riders/$15 for passengers; $20 for veterans and those on active duty with ID. The ride ends at the American Legion Post 1219 at 794 Springtown Road, Tillson. May 27: The Plattekill Memorial Day Parade will take place at 1 p.m., heading down Route 32 and ending at Veterans Park.

May 28: A Memorial Day flag changing ceremony will take place at Walkway Over the Hudson (61 Parker Ave, Poughkeepsie) at 7:30 p.m.

May 28: The Marlboro Memorial Day Parade will hold an introductory ceremony at 12:30 p.m., with the parade beginning at 1 p.m.

May 29: Highland will hold its Memorial Day Parade, starting at 9 a.m., and followed by a ceremony in the Town Square at approximately 10 a.m.

May 29: Town of Esopus Post 1298 Port Ewen parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Dollar General on 9W.

May 29: Hurley will hold its Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m.; participants are asked to line up at 9:15 a.m. The staging area is 185 Zandhoek Road.

May 29: The town of Shandaken Parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Main Street, ending at the Phoenician Restaurant, sponsored by American Legion Post 950.

May 30: The New Paltz Memorial Day Parade will take place at 6 p.m. at New Paltz Middle School (196 Main Street, New Paltz), stopping at the fire house.
