Kick off the cooler season the right way by engaging with the many events around the Hudson Valley region during Climate Solutions Week, now through Sept. 24. The week will collectively offer over 50 free events for those interested in solutions to climate change. Each promises to be informative, accessible and thought-provoking, with the goal of educating our community about steps and initiatives we can take every day to blunt the worst effects of climate change. The events will be in-person and virtual, concluding with a collection of family-friendly outdoor performances.

The events will cover topics like how to bring electric vehicles and their benefits into your life, how solar and alternate forms of energy are cleaner and more sustainable, the protection of our local parks, forests and preserves and how “buying local” is good for you and the climate.

Local events include: “Tree Preservation Law,” a virtual event in which the Orange County Planning Department discusses municipal laws to protect trees and promote the planting and maintenance of new trees”; “Creating Climate Courage: A View from the Clean Energy Future” at the Lifebridge Sanctuary in Rosendale; “Greening a Golf Course to Meet the Climate Challenge” at the Stone Dock Golf Course in High Falls, “Invest Sustainably, Sip Locally” at the Field of Dreams Pavilion in New Paltz and “Climate Action: Local Solutions” at the Mohonk Preserve Testimonial Gateway in Gardiner.

There are many potential solutions to the climate crisis our world is currently facing; it may take all of them to make a safer and better world for ourselves and generations to come. Although the week will focus on the wide range of solutions that each person can implement into their lives, organizers say that the main way we can combat this crisis is by “phasing out combustion of liquid fuels such as propane and gasoline, in favor of electric alternatives.”

In addition to this, the event will offer ways for our communities to help inform their residents about different resources available to them to help assist their transition into an eco-friendlier way of life.
