Kingston’s first legal adult use cannabis dispensary could be months away, but one local retailer and a consortium of marijuana growers has found a workaround that will allow visitors to have a full-fledged pot-shop experience with a wide variety of flower, edibles and extracts.

High Falls Canna NY will hold its next growers’ showcase at the Catskill Mountain High CBD store in Kingston Plaza. The showcase will open tomorrow at 4:20 p.m. and run six days a week though the end of year.

“We’re thrilled to provide our community with a unique opportunity to explore the world of cannabis and discover exceptional products,” said Jeanette Wolfe, co-founder of Catskill Mountain High. “Our goal is to offer a safe and educational environment where customers can make informed decisions and explore the benefits of cannabis.”

Catskill Mountain High has been open in Kingston Plaza for about six weeks selling CBD products. The business recently submitted its application to the state Office of Cannabis Management to become a full-fledged adult-use dispensary. But with the agonizingly slow rollout of legal cannabis sales in New York, that could be months away. In the meantime, OCM has approved an innovative plan that will allow the store to operate as a dispensary in all but name.

Instead of Wolfe and her team buying cannabis products wholesale and selling them to customers, Catskill Mountain High will play host to six licensed growers and two processors. All sales will go through a single licensed retailer who works with High Falls Canna. The arrangement, which has been approved by OCM, skirts state regulations that mandate strict separation between growers, processors who package cannabis or make extracts and edibles and retailers.

Wolfe, who has been busy rearranging the store to accommodate the showcase, said the goal is to introduce local residents to the legal dispensary experience.

“We’re turning over the whole store [to the growers’ showcase] so it will very much have the feel and the organic flow of what a dispensary is going to feel like later,” said Wolfe. “Plus the added benefit of having the growers here with us for people to really sit and talk to them and pull knowledge from the experts.”

The showcase is the latest effort by the state’s licensed growers to get their product to market as the rollout of legal retailers remains bogged down in legal challenges and administrative hurdles that will likely prevent the opening of licensed pot shops in Kingston until at least early next year. Wolfe said she hopes that by hosting the showcase, Catskill Mountain High will have a chance to meet their future customers and familiarize Kingstonians with the dispensary experience.

“The benefits are huge,” said Wolfe. “It not only gives us brand recognition within the CBD and cannabis industry, but it also really gets us to our goal of being able to support our community with cannabis. Just being a place where people can come and start shopping for it now, we’re more than excited to be that place.”

Following its opening tomorrow, the High Falls Canna growers showcase at Catskill Mountain High will be open Tuesday to Friday from 3:30-7:30 p.m., Saturday from noon to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from noon-5 p.m.
