Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, which for almost two decades has saved the lives of thousands of animals, recently welcomed a $650 donation from The Mid-Hudson Misfits, the local team dedicated to allowing people the chance to learn and play flat track roller derby.

Misfits skater and Shawangunk Journal publisher Amberly Jane Campbell, at right, presented the check last week to the High Falls-based sanctuary, the team’s chosen charity for its sold-out roller derby bout on Sept. 30. The team’s next mixed scrimmage, Jingle Jam at Skate Time in Accord, on Dec. 3, will benefit Toys for Tots.

The Sanctuary, founded by Jenny Brown and Doug Abel in 2004 outside Woodstock, moved in 2015 to its 150-acre property in the hills of High Falls. Through annual events, public weekend tours, and its award-winning on-site inn, the Gray Barn, the Sanctuary welcomes visitors from across the nation to visit, stay and fall in love with farmed animals. It provides daily care and medical support to more than 380 rescued animals, including ducks, chickens, geese, a llama, cows, pigs, sheep, goats and turkeys.
