The Borscht Belt Museum has invited visitors to experience the bygone era of the Borscht Belt with “Paradise Lost: Bungalows and Opulence in The Borscht Belt Era,” a photo exhibition from Hudson Valley native, Isaac Jeffreys.

The exhibition features over 75 historic Borscht Belt resorts spanning Sullivan and Ulster counties. The Borscht Belt was a popular Jewish resort area in the 1920s through the 1970s. Today, the majority of the resorts have either closed or have been repurposed into religious camps and meditation centers. Isaac Jeffreys's unique photographs capture the buildings with a sense of wonder and imagination for a time that he never experienced.

The exhibition also includes a collection of exclusive artifacts and ephemera from famous locations in the region such as The Stevensville and Brown's Hotel. These rare finds offer a unique glimpse into the rich history of these establishments. The exhibition will coincide with the 2024 Borscht Belt Festival, which will culminate in a closing reception on July 29, from 6 to 7 p.m.
