The Terrace Motel, a bygone Ellenville landmark that’s been lingering on the cusp of revitalization, was sold again.

The motel sits on a hilltop overlooking Ellenville and the Shawangunk Ridge, on 8.2 acres off Route 209, fronted by an iconic sign that’s rusted out and teetering. The motel itself is a two-story building with 24 rooms and a pool. In 2021, it was purchased for $550,000 by two couples hoping to revitalize it.

After two years of work, including draining the pool and attempted asbestos mediation, the ownership team announced at the end of last year that they could no longer spend the “blood, sweat and tears” necessary to see the project through.

“Our own lives have changed as much as the world has changed since we took this on in 2021 – kids, moves, jobs,” they said in a farewell statement, “and we are just not the right team to take it to the finish line anymore.”

The project gained serious interest in town. In July of 2021, the owners held an auction to sell off the remaining mid-century contents of the rooms. Hundreds of people showed up to buy furniture, lights, and unique mid-century appliances like push-button telephones and vintage television sets.

“It was much more intense than anything we had imagined,” co-owner Victoria Nelson said of the auction. “We got rid of everything.”

The property was re-listed in December 2023, with an asking price of $910,000, the higher price presumably reflecting the significant investment that the previous owners say they put into the property.

The Journal reached out to the listing agent for information about the new owner or owners and their plans. The agent said they would check with the owners, but did not respond by time of publication. We have heard, but could not confirm, that the sale price was approximately $600,000.
