Wings and Wheels for Warriors will hold its 11th car show at the Resnick Airport outside Ellenville on May 16 this year.

While people stroll up and down and check out the vintage automobiles on display, pilot Kate Kearny will be taking people up and around the area in her veteran Cessna. Meanwhile family fun will see activities in craft tents and the music mix (mostly country and classic rock) will be thundering forth from the audio tower under the control of DJ Brian. There will be food, plus raffles and prizes for the best cars and tractors in the show.

But there is a serious purpose as well, as seen in the name of the event. Over the years the show has raised $220,000 for the Disabled American Veterans of New York. For this year’s event, the organizers are going big, they say “ambitious but heartfelt.”

“For more than a decade, the Wings and Wheels Event has been a proud supporter of the Disabled American Veterans of New York,” Vinny Lang, Junior Vice Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Department of New York told the Shawangunk Journal. “Now in its 11th year, the event raises critical funds that directly support DAV programs and services, ensuring disabled veterans receive the advocacy, assistance, and outreach they have earned through their service. The generosity of Wings and Wheels has had a lasting impact across New York State, helping DAV continue its mission of empowering veterans and their families.”

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has been at work since 1920, assisting veterans who survived, often the most appalling injuries in foreign wars. They connect them to necessary services and medical assistance.

Lang added, “As DAV’s mission continues to evolve, we are also expanding our work to support veteran first responders – many of whom continue to serve their communities after military service. This emerging effort reflects DAV’s commitment to meeting veterans where they are and addressing the unique challenges they face, both in and out of uniform.”

Wings and Wheels for Warriors is hosted by Sprague & Killeen Insurance in Ellenville.
