The Ulster County Youth Bureau announced a new after school program at Ellenville Elementary School last Friday, free for all students. It's set to start Monday, November 2, and will run daily, 3:45 - 6 p.m.

All students in grades K - 6 are welcome to attend for homework assistance, arts and crafts, games, activities and supplementary learning learning, plus a few field trips throughout the school year. EES promises a safe and enriching space for students to continue learning after school. Free meals and snacks will be provided as well.

To run the program, ECSD is partnering with the Ulster County Office of Employment and Training (OET) to employ five Ellenville High School students as paid after-school staff. They will work with Ulster County Youth Development Specialist Lily Cigale to organize activities.

"I will be utilizing my experience in children's programming and counseling background to design developmentally appropriate activities and support the holistic well-being of the children we serve," Cigale said.

Families can enroll students in the program this Tuesday, October 27, from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Ellenville Elementary School. There are 40 spots open, first-come, first-served.

"This is a particularly high-needs community that lacks affordable after-school options," Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger acknowledged. "Expanding youth programming in Ellenville has been a priority of mine since coming into office, and we are thrilled to be able to provide this after-school program at no cost to families."

ECSD Superintendent Lisa Wiles expressed her gratitude, saying, "Having a safe, supportive place where children can continue learning, explore new interests, and build positive relationships beyond the school day will make a meaningful difference for our students and families."
