Peter Paul Sheremetta passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026, at the age of 78.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Peter spent most of his life in Ellenville and resided in Boerne, Texas, since 2024. Known for his quick wit, generous heart, and welcoming personality, he was often the life of the party, always ready with a good story, joke, or laugh.

Peter proudly served for 25 years as a corrections officer with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision at Eastern Correctional Facility, retiring in 2009. He formed lasting friendships with many colleagues, several of whom became lifelong friends.

He enjoyed fishing, building and collecting model cars, playing poker, reading magazines, and spending time with family. He especially cherished family gatherings, sitting on the porch with a cold Bud Light, walking his beloved dog, and watching his grandchildren, Kiley and Ryan, grow.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Ryan Sheremetta; his sons, James Sheremetta and his wife, Sandy; Michael Sheremetta and his wife, Tracy; and Thomas Sheremetta and his wife, Kelly; his grandchildren, Kiley and Ryan; his sister-in-law, Lorraine, and her husband, Bruce Broglie; and extended family, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his mother and Father Rose and James Ting.

Peter will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and ability to make ordinary gatherings special. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, dedicated corrections officer, and loyal friend. His legacy will live on through the family he cherished, the work he valued, and the many lives he touched.

Rest peacefully, Peter. May your fishing lines always be tight, your stories never end, your glass always be full, and your seat at the family table forever remain in our hearts.

You will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and remembered always.

A Celebration of life will be held next spring in Ellenville, New York. Date will be announced when more details are available.

Until we meet again.
