I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Lindsey Grossman as part of the Marbletown Democratic Committee, and what I’ve seen of her hard work, leadership, and dedication make me confident she would be the kind of legislator we need.

Since winning the endorsement of the Ulster County Democrats, Lindsey has been putting in work getting to know voters in our district, and has garnered strong support from a diverse group of residents including seniors who have lived here for decades, new families who recently arrived, artists, farmers, small businesses, union workers and more.

Lindsey listens, invites challenges to her thinking, and collaborates through dissent.

That’s the kind of leader we need to build coalitions and solve complex problems. With federal budget cuts looming that will impact our county, we need legislators who are going to pay attention to the details, get into the weeds to find new solutions, and protect our neighbors who need the most support.

I know Lindsey will fight to expand housing, support small businesses, and protect our environment. With two decades of experience in coalition building, policy, innovation, and management, Lindsey will be the kind of champion that Ulster County needs. She’s got the experience, energy, and empathy that will be needed in the years ahead.

Manna Jo Greene, our incumbent County legislator for District 19, has my full admiration and respect for her many and varied accomplishments during her 12 years of service. And in this year of change, the work can and must continue.

The challenges we, and our planet, face are multigenerational. Let's usher in the next generation, with equally talented and capable candidates, to lead us forward. Lindsey Grossman of High Falls is the right candidate for our times.

I recently met Lindsey when she came to my door while canvassing. We discussed a variety of my concerns. I was more than impressed with her attentiveness and specific knowledge of the issues I raised. (She followed up days later with additional info that she'd promised to send me about a certain issue.)

I can clearly see why Lindsey was endorsed by a supermajority by the Ulster County Democratic Party. She earned a candidate rating of 100% by Planned Parenthood of Greater New York. She is endorsed by Eleanor's Legacy and Run for Something.

And I endorse her, too.

I am writing this letter to urge Democratic voters in Rosendale, Stone Ridge, and High Falls to vote for Lindsey Grossman for Ulster County Legislature (District 19) in the June 24 Democratic Primary. My reasons for this request have to do with countries that one might think are completely unrelated to our local politics. I grew up in India and married into a Russian family. The politics of India and Russia, especially at the county level, are marred by a fundamental cynicism, one so corrosive and all-pervading that it prevents dynamic, young people from joining the political arena.

I have begun to fear that the same cynicism might destroy the American democracy. The source of the cynicism has many facets, and it is beyond the scope of a letter to the editor to elaborate on them. But I can say with surety that if we want to save the democratic institutions of our nation, we must try our hardest to bring intelligent, energetic, and passionate people from the younger generation- people like Lindsey Grossman- into positions of governance.

We must do at the local level what the major political parties at the Federal level seem so woefully incapable of. We must vote in new energetic leaders like Lindsey who will work diligently and collaboratively at the interconnected malaises affecting all our lives, issues including climate change, income inequality, housing, lack of adequate healthcare, and rights of minorities. We cannot wait another two years or four years to build the new generation of American leaders. The time is NOW!
