This November’s midterm elections will determine whether Congress continues to enable the Trump administration’s agenda or whether voters restore meaningful checks and balances in Washington.

That is why reelecting Congressman Josh Riley in New York’s 19th Congressional District is so important. Republicans hold an extremely narrow House majority, and control of Congress could come down to just a handful of competitive districts like ours. Josh won this seat by just over two percentage points in 2024, so NY-19 will once again be one of the most closely watched races in the country.

Josh understands the challenges facing Upstate New York families. At a time when decisions in Washington are affecting health care, food assistance, household costs, small businesses and local governments, we need a representative who will put our communities ahead of powerful corporate interests and partisan politics.

It is understandable to feel anxious or worried about the coming elections. But the best antidote to that anxiety is to get involved: meet your neighbors, ask questions, build community and take action to help achieve the outcomes you want to see.

Campaigns should not be only about advertisements and talking points. Voters deserve opportunities to meet their representatives, ask difficult questions and hear directly about what is happening in Congress.
